About this course

You were the best worker on the shift. Now you are the lead, and the job is different: keeping the work, supplies and equipment moving, and clearing roadblocks for everyone else. This course gives new and aspiring team leads in EVS, patient transport, linen and laundry, food and nutrition, and facilities a clear, practical way to run a shift from the first huddle to the handoff.

You will learn what a lead can decide, what to check first and what to escalate; how to lead people who used to be your peers; how to give assignments nobody can misread (Outcome, Owner, Order, Check-in); how to give feedback that fixes problems (Observation, Impact, Inquiry, Next step); how to handle conflict and safety in the moment; and how to hand off the shift with STATE and an Escalation Brief.

Eight short lessons with examples from five departments, a Practice Lab with six scenarios and a rubric, and a 10-question knowledge check. You keep a First Week Workbook and a Team Lead Pocket Shift Card.
