About Course

One of 30 ITC Continuing Education modules. See every module, the CE Access passes and how hours reach your record.

Expands on foundational safe patient handling with equipment-specific technique and high-risk transfer scenarios.

Professional development for transporters. Carries 1 CE hour toward the optional CHT CE Active notation. It carries no CE toward CHTI or CPTMP renewal. Hours post when you pass the end-of-module assessment.

One self-paced module with worked scenarios, the tools it refers to, and an applied activity at the end. Then a 15-question assessment drawn at random from a 30-question bank: pass with 11 of 15 correct. You get three attempts, each retake shows a different set, and every answer comes with an explanation.

What Will You Learn?

  • Identify the five categories of patient handling equipment and select the right device for a patient’s weight, mobility status and destination.
  • Run a pre-transfer assessment using the SAFE framework, including weight, weight-bearing status, fall risk and equipment condition.
  • Apply the two-person assist triggers and state which trigger applies in a given situation.
  • Perform a pre-use equipment inspection and follow the out-of-service protocol when equipment fails it.
  • Communicate a transfer to the patient and to clinical staff so the move is coordinated rather than improvised.
  • Make the device and second-person call on realistic transfers, and check your decisions against your facility policy.
