What Will You Learn?

  • Distinguish Standard Precautions from the three categories of Transmission-Based Precautions and say which applies to a given transport.
  • Select, don and doff PPE in the correct sequence for Contact, Droplet and Airborne Precautions.
  • Apply the transport protocol for each precaution category, including patient masking and receiving-unit notification.
  • State why alcohol-based hand rub does not substitute for soap and water after a C. difficile patient.
  • Clean transport equipment to the facility standard before and after every patient encounter.
  • Run the right protocol on realistic isolation transports, and check your doffing and cleaning against the label and your facility policy.
