About this course

The calls that end careers and lawsuits are rarely routine. This course is for experienced officers, response-team members and leads who handle the highest-acuity events in a hospital: a patient in behavioral crisis, a threat against staff, an active threat, a missing infant, an investigation that has to stand up later, and a major incident under command. It teaches how to read the situation, partner with clinical and law enforcement teams, and keep the response inside your authority.

It is built from Impact Training Company’s 2027 Healthcare Security Advanced Response and Threat Management curriculum and reviewed against IAHSS guidelines, The Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, EMTALA, DHS/CISA and FEMA NIMS/HICS guidance.

How it works

  • 12 lessons plus a one-night practice lab as response lead, with composite hospital scenarios
  • A 5-question practice quiz after each lesson, unlimited tries
  • Final exam: 40 questions from a bank of 120, 80 percent to pass, 3 attempts
  • Advanced Response Quick Reference Cards you can download and keep
  • Certificate of completion

Where it fits

This is the advanced course in the ITC hospital security sequence. Take Healthcare Security Officer: Technical Skills and Strategic Skill Building first, or have equivalent field experience.

What this course is, and is not

This is knowledge training. It teaches no physical techniques, restraint holds or tactics. It does not replace a state security officer license where one is required, employer training, use-of-force or weapons qualification, restraint training, or a BLS card. It is not legal advice; your facility’s plans, state law and policy govern your authority.

This certificate recognizes completion of advanced response training. On-the-job performance is verified by the employer.
